The football world is in mourning following the tragic death of Diogo Jota, the Portuguese Liverpool forward, who was killed at dawn in a violent car crash. His brother André also lost his life in the tragedy.

Cristiano Ronaldo pays tribute to Diogo Jota

In a deeply moving message posted on his X account, Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the Portuguese national team and striker for Al-Nassr, expressed his sorrow: "It doesn't make sense. We had just joined up with the national team, you had just gotten married."

He added: "To your family, your wife and your children, I offer my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world."

Ronaldo concluded: "I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you."

According to the Spanish newspaper AS, the accident occurred in the municipality of Cernadilla, in the province of Zamora, near the Portuguese border. The vehicle, a Lamborghini, reportedly suffered a tire blowout as Jota was trying to overtake another car.

The same source reports that the driver lost control of the car, which then veered off the road and caught fire. Both occupants died instantly, trapped by the flames.
