Andreas Christensen was injured during FC Barcelona’s victory over Sevilla FC (3-1). The Catalan club provided an update on the condition of their defender this Sunday.

Barça confirm Christensen’s injury

Examinations undergone by the Dane revealed an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his left thigh. FC Barcelona said that his return will depend on the progress of his recovery.

Christensen had been forced to leave his teammates in the 59th minute, replaced by Gerard Martín.

One fewer defensive option for Flick

The defender has played seven matches this season for FC Barcelona and provided one assist. Hansi Flick will therefore have to cope without Christensen for the next several weeks and adjust his defensive rotation based on the players available.

Barça will now monitor the player’s progress before setting a date for his return to competition.
