Raphinha criticises Atlético Madrid over the Julián Álvarez affair
The Julián Álvarez saga continues to make headlines involving Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona. Raphinha, Barça’s Brazilian forward, has now spoken out about the Madrid club’s stance.
Raphinha does not understand Atlético’s stance
Julián Álvarez, 26, wanted to leave Atlético Madrid to join FC Barcelona during the summer. The Catalan club reportedly submitted a €100 million offer, but Atlético refused to negotiate. Speaking to RAC1, Raphinha explained that he did not understand the Madrid club’s position.
He repeatedly said that he wanted to leave and come to us. I don’t understand.
The Brazilian acknowledges that Atlético may want to keep a player of Álvarez’s calibre, but believes the club went too far.
I understand that they don’t want to let a player of his calibre leave, but they took things a little further than normal.
Laporta defends Barça’s negotiations
Raphinha also believes that the situation can become problematic when a player no longer feels comfortable at his club.
If you don’t feel good somewhere, it is very difficult to succeed. It is difficult to find the peace of mind needed to be able to work.
For his part, Joan Laporta defended FC Barcelona’s position in the matter. The Catalan president said that the club had followed a normal procedure and stated that he had spoken directly with Gil Marín, a director at Atlético Madrid.
