Supporters of FC Barcelona have received reassuring news ahead of the highly anticipated match against Newcastle United, as part of the 2025-2026 UEFA Champions League.
Anxiety had gripped Blaugrana fans after young talent Marc Bernal was substituted at halftime during yesterday’s clash with Athletic Bilbao. Barcelona came out on top with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a goal from Lamine Yamal in the 68th minute.
Will Marc Bernal miss the showdown against Newcastle?
However, several Spanish media outlets, including the daily Diario AS, quickly reassured Catalan supporters. According to these reports, the player has not suffered any muscle injury or serious knock. His substitution was simply due to stomach discomfort.
Still according to the same source, the young midfielder, whose market value is estimated at €10 million, is expected to be available for the match against Newcastle, scheduled for next Tuesday at St James’ Park, in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
For his part, German coach Hans-Dieter Flick explained the change during the post-match press conference: "We had to replace Marc Bernal as a precaution because he was feeling some discomfort."
