Hamza Mathlouthi: "Zizo's move to Al Ahly caught me off guard!"
The Tunisian international defender Hamza Mathlouthi, a player for Zamalek, revealed that the transfer of the duo Ahmed Mostafa "Zizo" and Imam Ashour to eternal rival Al Ahly was a major surprise to him.
As a guest on the show Malaab One Time, the former CS Sfaxien player discussed various topics, including Zizo's departure to Al Ahly, the latest developments in his contract with Zamalek, his relationship with Imam Ashour and Mohamed Abdelshafy, among others.
Mathlouthi: "Zamalek doesn't rely on anyone, not even Zizo!"
Mathlouthi acknowledged that Zizo's departure was a significant loss for the Whites: "I didn't expect him to leave; he has made history with the club. It's a big loss as he's a high-caliber player who can contribute greatly to any team."
He added: "I would have liked him to choose to stay, as Shikabala did. But in the end, it's his decision, which I respect."
He also shared: "I really like Zizo. I was very close to him over the last five or six years. I saw him more often than my own family."
Continuing, he said: "I haven't had contact with him recently, but the fans have every right to be disappointed. Everyone knows that Zamalek doesn't depend on any player, no matter how influential."
On another note, the 32-year-old spoke about the upcoming end of his contract with Zamalek:
"My rehabilitation phase is going well. I will be ready for the start of the season. There have been informal discussions with the club about an extension, but there's no problem on my side. Zamalek is like home to me. My goal is to get back on the field."
Mathlouthi also talked about his relationship with Imam Ashour, now an Al Ahly player: "We played together at Zamalek, and we are friends. I didn't expect him to join Al Ahly, but once again, Zamalek does not depend on any player. Besides, I would like to see Mohamed Magdy Afsha wear the Zamalek jersey one day."
Finally, he expressed his utmost respect for Mohamed Abdelshafy: “Mohamed Abdelshafy is a role model for me on the field. He is a symbol of fair play and professionalism. He's a great player everyone dreams of collaborating with.”
