The crisis rocking Italian football has reached a new level. Following the resignation of president Gabriele Gravina, Gianluigi Buffon has also stepped down from his role as head of delegation—a direct consequence of the national team's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

In an emotional message, the legendary goalkeeper explained his decision:

"Resigning one minute after the end of the match against Bosnia was an urgent act, coming from deep within me."

He then added candidly:

"The main objective was to bring Italy back to the World Cup. And we didn't achieve that. It's only right to allow those who come after me the freedom to choose the person they believe is best suited for my position."
