Kompany closes the door on Manchester City
Tipped as a possible successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Vincent Kompany now looks set to stay put. Despite mounting speculation over Guardiola's potential departure at the end of the season, Bayern Munich's current manager is not considering leaving Bavaria.
Manchester City must look elsewhere
Having made a highly convincing start on the Munich bench, Vincent Kompany is opting for continuity. In the thick of the title race and still competing in the Champions League, the Belgian tactician wants to continue the work he has started. His excellent relationship with Bayern's board also strengthens this stance. Everything seems in place for a long-term project.
Meanwhile, at Manchester City, the search for a post-Guardiola era continues. While Kompany's name was an exciting prospect, particularly given his history as a player at the club, this lead now appears to be cooling. Other candidates, such as Xabi Alonso, are still being mentioned as possible successors should the Spanish manager depart.
