La Liga torpedoes Barça's friendly in Morocco
According to Spanish media, FC Barcelona has decided to cancel the friendly match it had planned to play in Morocco on December 22.
This U-turn comes after La Liga scheduled the clash between Barcelona and Villarreal for December 21 at La Cerámica stadium, following the failed attempt to relocate the match to Miami.
The Catalan club was hoping to offset the losses from the canceled Miami fixture by organizing a friendly abroad. However, regulations governing the collaboration between LaLiga and the players' union have blocked this possibility.
LaLiga rules sink Barça's Morocco project
According to Mundo Deportivo, these regulations require Barça players to return to Spain before midnight on December 22, the eve of the Christmas break. This makes a round trip to Morocco within the deadline impossible.
The newspaper also notes that coach Hansi Flick has yet to finalize his plans before the winter break, but the possibility of a friendly in Morocco now appears all but abandoned.
The same source reports that holding the match might have been feasible if the Villarreal game had remained scheduled for December 20, as initially planned. But the calendar change has definitively scrapped the project.
