Senegal: one defeat and one draw in two matches, concerns ahead of the World Cup
Senegal has not completely reassured itself just days before kicking off its 2026 World Cup campaign. The Lions of Teranga wrapped up their preparations with a goalless draw against Saudi Arabia (0-0) on Tuesday at San Antonio's Toyota Field, having already suffered a 3-2 defeat to the United States a few days earlier.
Against the Saudis, Pape Thiaw's men showed good intentions and created several chances. But, as in their previous outing, they lacked clinical finishing in the final third—a concern that now raises questions as the World Cup approaches.
An attack lacking in efficiency
With Sadio Mané and several key players back, Senegal had hoped to regain confidence ahead of the tournament. However, despite generally solid control and moments of reassuring defensive organization, the Lions could not break down a disciplined Saudi side.
This second winless match leaves some doubts ahead of the upcoming clash with France scheduled for June 16. Between the loss to the United States and this goalless draw against Saudi Arabia, Senegal finishes its preparations without a victory and with pressing questions about its attacking play.
The Lions of Teranga will need to quickly rediscover their scoring touch if they want to head into the World Cup with confidence and hope to pull off a major upset in a particularly tough group.
