Liverpool immortalizes Diogo Jota with a memorial at Anfield
One year after the death of Diogo Jota, Liverpool has taken steps to forever engrave his memory in the club's history. The Reds have unveiled a permanent memorial outside Anfield, honoring the Portuguese international and his brother André Silva, both of whom tragically lost their lives in a road accident on July 3, 2025.
Named "Forever 20", the installation pays tribute to the number 20 Jota wore during his time at Liverpool. In the wake of the tragedy, the club made the extraordinary decision to permanently retire that number—a rare gesture, underscoring the profound mark Jota left behind. Diogo Jota joined Liverpool after impressive spells at Paços de Ferreira, FC Porto, and Wolverhampton.
Jota also made 49 appearances for the Portuguese national team. His brother, André Silva, played for Penafiel in Portugal's second division. With this memorial, Liverpool aims to give fans a place to pay their respects and to remind everyone that Diogo Jota will forever remain a legendary figure in Anfield’s history.
