Last night, Mohamed Salah remained on the bench during the Champions League quarter-final first leg between PSG and Liverpool. Slot offered his explanation.

Liverpool were clearly outplayed by PSG (2-0) on Wednesday night in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. The Reds never managed to find an attacking solution. This fact was only underscored by the absence of winger Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian stayed on the bench despite Liverpool’s struggles to create danger. Arne Slot stood by his choice.

"If we had played better, if we had more possession, it would have made sense to bring on Mohamed Salah to make the difference. But if we have to defend as much as we did, then it’s better for him to save his energy for the weekend," explained the Dutch coach to Canal+.
