Mercato: Frankfurt beats Al-Ittihad in the race to sign Raphael Onyedika

A dramatic twist in the Raphael Onyedika saga. While Saudi club Al-Ittihad had just made their first offer, Eintracht Frankfurt swooped in to seal the deal.

According to Foot Mercato, an agreement has been reached between Club Brugge and Frankfurt for the transfer of Raphael Onyedika.

The deal is expected to bring in €9 million for the Belgian champions. The 24-year-old midfielder is set to sign with the German side until 2030, pending a medical scheduled for early next week.

Just a few hours earlier, Africafoot revealed that Al-Ittihad had made the Nigerian international their top priority. The Saudi club tabled a bid worth €12 million, including bonuses, to bolster their midfield.

Captain departs the squad

Since joining Brugge in 2022, Onyedika (24) has played 183 matches, scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists, winning the Belgian league title twice (2024 and 2026), as well as the Belgian Cup and Supercup in 2025. This season, he continued to shine with 42 appearances, 3 goals, and 2 assists, including two goals in the UEFA Champions League. He also caught the eye at the Africa Cup of Nations with a brace against Uganda.
