Morocco Coach Backs Hakimi for 2025 Ballon d'Or Glory
Walid Regragui head coach of Morocco has thrown his full support behind Achraf Hakimi’s Ballon d’or candidacy for 2025. After Morocco’s 1 - 0 friendly win over Benin on Monday, the coach voiced his frustration with the obstacles African players face on the global stage.
"The challenges Hakimi faces have nothing to do with his talent, It’s about his position as full back, his African origin and the unfair treatment African players often receive even from their own" Regragui said.
Champions League Glory Changes the Game
Regragui insists that Hakimi's all the credentials to compete for football’s biggest individual award especially after sensational season with PSG which saw him lift the Champions league title for the first time in the club’s history, along with domestic dominance.
From PSG Hero to National Icon
Hakimi remains key figure for both club & country. With PSG, he was crucial in their european run. Internationally he continues to shine with Morocco, having played major role in their historic 2022 World cup semi final finish and helped secure bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Regragui’s remarks come as momentum builds for African recognition in global football awards and Hakimi may now be at the front of that push.
