The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has praised the performances of African teams during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing his pride in the journey accomplished by the continent’s representatives throughout the tournament.

"Proud of what African teams have achieved"

On the eve of the World Cup final, Patrice Motsepe declared: "I am proud of all the African teams that participated in the World Cup. We will hold meetings to identify areas for improvement and target even better results in the next editions."

The CAF president then reaffirmed African football's ambitions: "Our goal is to see an African team win the World Cup one day."

For the first time in its history, Africa was represented by ten teams in a World Cup finals. Nine of them reached the knockout stage, while Tunisia was the only team from the continent to exit at the group phase.

In conclusion, Patrice Motsepe highlighted the success of this edition: "This tournament is a huge success. It’s an incredible showcase for world football. It has demonstrated football’s unique power to bring people together, as well as the quality of the game played across the globe."
