Preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations: Egypt get revenge on Senegal

A sudden halt for the Senegal Lionesses’ run. In a friendly match, Senegal’s women’s national team fell to Egypt 1-0 on Saturday, June 11. The defeat has no consequences, but serves as an important lesson ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.

This was a well-deserved redemption for the Egyptians. After a narrow 1-0 defeat on Wednesday, Egypt hit back with a win by the same scoreline on Saturday, showcasing their ability to bounce back quickly and enter the tournament with renewed confidence.

Senegal continue their preparations for the tournament. After two defeats in June against Nigeria, Mam Moussa Cissé’s players got back to winning ways against Egypt before facing this latest test.

Now it’s time for the final turn. Senegal will compete in Group A alongside Algeria, Kenya, and hosts Morocco, while Egypt are drawn in Group C with Malawi, Nigeria, and Zambia.
