Senegal loses key players ahead of kickoff at the Women's AFCON

Tough blow for the Lionesses. On Monday, July 20, Mame Moussa Cissé announced his 26-player squad. But four names will be missing when the team heads to Morocco.

Mikaela Bottega, Mariama Deen Toure, Aminata Keita, and Mady Soumare, all present during the preparation camp, will not take part in the Women's AFCON from July 25 to August 16.

According to the Senegalese Football Federation, the naturalization processes for these dual-nationality players were not completed in time. The CAF deadline has now passed.

Senegal will thus start the tournament with a reduced squad. It's a significant loss for the coach, as these players had been regularly called up in recent matches. Senegal finds itself in a tough Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya.
