Siwelele FC interim coach Godfrey Mosoetsa has dropped a hint that the club could potentially sign Happy Mashiane on a free transfer, amid a poor start to the 2026/27 campaign.

The 28-year-old left-back parted ways with boyhood club Kaizer Chiefs as part of a mass exodus at the end of last season, and has since struggled to find a new home in the Betway Premiership.

He was reportedly on the radar of Stellenbosch FC but the Cape Winelands outfit pulled the plug following the arrival of Terrence Mashego on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Now, Mashiane is under assessment at Siwelele, having started training with the club during the FIFA international break, with Mosoetsa expressing keen interest in roping in the player.

“He started during the FIFA break, so he has been training very well. There's just a couple of things that need to be sorted out administratively and then we'll take it from there,” said the caretaker coach.

"But we cannot deny the fact that he's a very good player, he's got PSL experience, he played for Kaizer Chiefs while he was still young. So, he's got much to offer.

While the experienced youth development coach is eager to bring in Mashiane at the Bloemfontein-based outfit, he acknowledges that the player's representatives and the club's hierarchy must find common ground on contractual terms.

“From the technical side we see something that we may definitely need to take this team out of the woods,” added Mosoetsa, who was retained after Siwelele bought the status of SuperSport United.

"But it also lies with what happens behind the scenes in terms of management and his agent sorting out any other outstanding issues.

Siwelele will continue their quest for a first Betway Premiership win of the season when they tackle Polokwane City on home soil on Sunday, before facing the same opponent in the Carling Knockout Cup round of 16 on the road.
