Manchester City - PSG: Enzo Fernandez sends the referee tumbling! (Video)
A sequence involving Enzo Fernandez has sparked controversy after Manchester City-PSG, with UEFA potentially set to review the Argentine’s actions this Thursday.
Almost unnoticed during the match, an image is generating plenty of discussion this Thursday morning. During Manchester City’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain, which the Citizens lost 4-2, Enzo Fernandez was involved in an incident that could have cost him dearly.
With Manchester City trailing 4-1, the Argentina international was inadvertently obstructed by referee Sven Jablonski as an attacking move appeared to be developing. Clearly irritated, Fernandez pushed the match official in the back, with enough force to send him to the ground.
An incident that went unpunished at the time
In the heat of the moment, Sven Jablonski did not appear to immediately realise what had happened. After falling, the referee quickly got back to his feet to follow the continuation of the play, with the ball having returned to Ayyoub Bouaddi.
Enzo Fernandez ultimately got away without even a booking. No disciplinary action was taken on the pitch for the push, but the footage is now circulating widely on social media.
Another incident causing controversy
This latest episode is a reminder that the Argentine midfielder has already been at the centre of several controversies during his career, both with the Argentina national team and in his club environment. When results do not go their way or tensions rise, some of his reactions have regularly sparked debate.
This time, the question is whether UEFA will decide to review the footage and potentially open disciplinary proceedings. At this stage, no decision has yet been announced.
Sportingly, Manchester City had already endured a difficult evening against PSG, who were largely dominant in the first half before securing a 4-2 victory. This incident involving Fernandez now threatens to extend the post-match fallout even further.
