U20 World Cup: three Nigerian players sidelined by visa issues

The Nigeria U20 women’s national team faces a setback ahead of the World Cup, as three players, including captain Joy Igbokwe, have remained at home due to visa complications.

Three players miss the trip

According to AdemolaSports, Joy Igbokwe, Sandra John, and Faridat Abdulwahab are the three players affected by this situation. The Falconets have traveled to Poland to compete in the U20 Women’s World Cup, but these three could not join the rest of the squad as their visa issues remain unresolved.

This situation had already disrupted the Nigerian squad’s preparations. The federation was even forced to postpone the team’s departure before finally managing to organize the trip.

Captain’s absence especially notable

The absence of Joy Igbokwe is particularly significant. The midfielder is a key player for the Falconets and also serves as team captain. Nigeria is now hoping to quickly resolve the situation so the trio can join up with their teammates before the tournament begins.

The Falconets are set to face Spain, New Caledonia, and China in the group stage. Their tournament opener is scheduled for September 7 in Sosnowiec. Nigeria ranks among the most consistent teams in U20 Women’s World Cup history, having featured in every edition. The Falconets notably reached the final twice, in 2010 and 2014.
