UEFA CL: Guirassy shatters Haaland and Lewandowski's record!
The Guinean international Serhou Guirassy (29), striker for Borussia Dortmund, made club history by scoring an impressive hat-trick against FC Barcelona during the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, played Tuesday night at Signal Iduna Park.
Despite the three goals scored by the Guinean striker in the 11th, 49th, and 76th minutes, luck did not favor his team to qualify, following a heavy first-leg defeat (4-0). Borussia Dortmund is thus eliminated from the competition with an aggregate score of (5-3).
Guirassy tops the scoring charts
The former Stuttgart player seized the top spot in the goal-scoring charts of this Champions League edition thanks to his hat-trick against the "Blaugranas," bringing his total to 13 goals. He now leads by one goal over his closest competitors, the FC Barcelona stars: Brazilian Raphinha (12 goals) and Polish Robert Lewandowski (11 goals).
Guirassy writes his name in Dortmund's legends
According to statistics provided by the Opta network, Guirassy smashed the historical record of 10 goals in a season held jointly by Norwegian Erling Haaland (2020/2021 season) and Polish Robert Lewandowski (2012/2013 season). He thus becomes the first player in Borussia Dortmund's history to score 13 goals in a single Champions League edition.
Moreover, Guirassy marks his name in the competition's history by becoming the first African player to reach this goal total in a Champions League season.
