Women's AFCON: here are the winners of the last ten editions

With the 2026 Women's AFCON on the horizon, let's look back at the last ten completed editions of a competition dominated by Nigeria's mighty Super Falcons.

The Women's Africa Cup of Nations has a clear queen. Out of the last ten tournaments, Nigeria has claimed the trophy seven times. Only Equatorial Guinea and South Africa have managed to break this remarkable streak.

This ranking covers the last ten completed editions, from 2004 to 2024. The 2020 tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so no title was awarded that year.

The 2024 edition, which officially retains this label despite being played in July 2025 in Morocco, saw the Super Falcons reclaim their crown. Trailing by two goals to Morocco in the final, Nigeria staged a stunning comeback to win 3-2.

Nigeria reigns almost unchallenged

With seven titles in the last ten tournaments, Nigeria boasts a 70% success rate. Their remarkable consistency explains their top spot in the Women's AFCON roll of honour, with ten titles overall.

Equatorial Guinea remains the only team to have won two editions during this period, in 2008 and 2012. South Africa, for their part, captured their first continental trophy in 2022.

As the 2026 Women's AFCON approaches, Nigeria remains the undisputed benchmark. But the rise of South Africa, Morocco, and Zambia suggests the competition is now more open than ever.
