World Cup 2026 / Argentina - Algeria: FAF files an official complaint with FIFA

The Fennecs are not willing to let controversial refereeing decisions slide after their defeat to La Albiceleste at the 2026 World Cup. The FAF is particularly challenging two incidents involving Lionel Messi and Alexis Mac Allister that could have resulted in red cards and completely changed the outcome of the match.

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has decided to take action following Algeria's 3-0 loss to Argentina in their opening game at the 2026 World Cup. According to Compétition, an Algerian media outlet, an official complaint has been submitted to FIFA regarding several disputed refereeing decisions.

The body led by Walid Sadi believes that Polish referee Szymon Marciniak and the VAR team failed to properly sanction two controversial incidents: Messi's studs-up challenge on Aïssa Mandi and Alexis Mac Allister's elbow on Ibrahim Maza, both of which could have resulted in dismissals.

However, despite this move to FIFA, the Fennecs must now look ahead. Still according to Compétition, Vladimir Petkovic's men are preparing for their next crucial clash against Jordan, scheduled for June 23 at 04:00 (Algerian time), where a response is vital to keep their qualification hopes alive.
