World Cup 2026: Emiliano Martínez sees Algeria beating Jordan and Austria
Poll
As Algeria emerges from a heavy defeat against Argentina, a player from the Albiceleste has delivered some unexpected remarks about the Fennecs. Emiliano Martínez praised the qualities of the national team and expressed confidence in their future performances.
Despite Algeria’s tough 3-0 loss to Argentina in their opening match at the 2026 World Cup, Emiliano Martínez doesn’t seem concerned about the Fennecs’ prospects. Speaking to the Algerian outlet Compétition in the mixed zone after the match, the Albiceleste goalkeeper stated that Vladimir Petkovic’s men have what it takes to bounce back against Jordan and Austria.

The Aston Villa shot-stopper delivered a particularly glowing review of the Algerian squad:
“I think Algeria is a very good team. They know how to move the ball around, and that’s already impressive. They have a lot of pace on the wings and Bentaleb is in total control of the midfield. I think they will beat Austria and Jordan. I’m sure they’ll recover and move forward. I really liked the way this Algerian team played, and they managed to stay humble despite the defeat.”
However, the Greens will now have to live up to these compliments on the pitch. Their next clash against Jordan, scheduled for June 23, already looks decisive in keeping their hopes of reaching the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup alive.
