World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Libya to appeal to FIFA after defeat to Cameroon
It's Libya's turn to appeal to the International Federation of Football (FIFA) to contest the refereeing in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Defeated by Cameroon with a score of 3-1 in a match counting for the 5th round of qualifications, the North African team is relegated to 3rd place in their group with only 8 points, 5 points behind the leader Cape Verde.

According to African journalist Micky jnr, Libya believes that South African referee Tom Abongile did not perform his duties properly and favored the "Indomitable Lions" with decisions deemed "calamitous."

This claim by the Libyan Football Federation has little chance of succeeding, unless FIFA's investigations confirm the presence of a presumption of corruption.
To recall, the world's football governing body decided in 2017 to replay the match between Senegal and South Africa, counting for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers after discovering the involvement of Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey in betting scandals.
