Unlike its neighbors (Algeria and Morocco), Tunisia has faced a significant setback in this area in recent years.

Since the masterstroke of Hannibal Mejbri in 2021, the North African team has failed to secure dual-national gems from European teams.

Several reasons explain this failure, including the administrative instability experienced by the governing body since the dismissal of Wadi Al Jary, as well as the lack of an ambitious sports project.

Several cases pending

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has tracked several dual-national players over the past few years, notably Ismaël Gharbi, the former Paris Saint-Germain player, Youssef Chermiti, the young Everton forward, and Haissem Hassan, the Real Oviedo forward.

To this day, no progress has been made in this matter, much to the dismay of football fans in Tunisia, especially since challenges abound with the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
