World Cup 2026: The Ghanaian government responds to Thomas Partey's ban from entering Canada!
The decision to prevent Thomas Partey from entering Canadian territory to play in the World Cup, to play his first match against Panama in Toronto, did not go unnoticed. Rather, the Ghanaian government responded quickly, denying this decision.
The official response from the Ghanaian government!
According to The Irish News, the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded strongly to the decision, stating that it raised "high-handed and extremely raised unfair questions of fairness and proportionality."
Ghanaian officials have expressed strong frustration after Canada refused a temporary residence application for Black Stars midfielder Thomas Teye Partey, who is set to play in the 2026 World Cup.
The government issued a statement describing the decision as “high‑handed and extremely unfair,” noting that Partey is a key member of Ghana’s national team and that the refusal was based on pending criminal proceedings in the United Kingdom that have not resulted in any conviction or judicial finding of guilt.
Officials said they are “pursuing active diplomatic engagements with the relevant Canadian authorities” in the hope of reaching a resolution before Ghana’s match against Panama, scheduled to take place at BMO Field in Toronto.
The outcome of those efforts could determine whether Partey will be available for one of Ghana’s most important group fixtures. For now, the midfielder’s participation remains uncertain, with diplomatic channels working against the clock to overturn a decision the Ghanaian government views as unjust.
