2026 World Cup: Argentina accuses Brazil

In recent hours, Argentine President Javier Milei has reignited the controversy surrounding the 2026 World Cup. He accused Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S. Democratic Party of having participated in funding an alleged “anti-Argentina campaign.”

Speaking on Radio Mitre, the Argentine leader claimed—without presenting evidence—that foreign actors had invested in an operation aimed at tarnishing the image of his country and its national team. He went as far as to state that “25% of the resources” allegedly came from the Brazilian government.

Milei also denounced the actions of so-called “progressive masterminds” who, according to him, are trying to prevent the spread of his political ideas. This media outburst comes amid already heightened tensions between Buenos Aires and Brasília. Indeed, diplomatic relations between Argentina and Brazil have soured following fresh verbal attacks from Milei directed at President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and several prominent Brazilian figures.

While the criticism of the Albiceleste’s conduct during the World Cup had already sparked heated reactions, the Argentine president has chosen to turn this backlash into a political battle, accusing his rivals of seeking to weaken his country on the international stage.
