2026 World Cup - Spain: Luis de la Fuente confident in his midfield
Spain's head coach, Luis de la Fuente, does not hide his admiration for his team ahead of facing Cape Verde this Monday.
For their opening match in the 2026 World Cup, Spain will take on Cape Verde in just a few hours. Ahead of the match, the Spanish manager declared that La Roja’s midfield is the best in the world.
"I think it's the best midfield in the world. That's the truth. We have the Ballon d'Or (Rodri, in 2024), we have Zubimendi, who could win it one day. Fabian Ruiz, Pedri, Olmo, Merino, Baena, Gavi... There are so many great footballers, some of whom will have to sit on the bench because not everyone can play. That's the fortune of this squad," said Luis de la Fuente at the press conference.
"It's a privilege to have a team like this, so committed, with players who fully understand and accept their roles at all times. It's a real advantage, but in my opinion—and with all due respect to the others—this is the best team in the world, with the best players," added the manager.
