Aston Villa: Emery praises Nicolas Jackson’s performance against City
Senegal international Nicolas Jackson (25) led his English team, Aston Villa, to victory over Manchester City after scoring both of his team’s goals in a match during which he strongly impressed his Spanish manager, Unai Emery.
Jackson opened the scoring before Manchester City equalised through their Norwegian star Erling Haaland, but the Senegalese striker then restored Aston Villa’s lead, inflicting the « Sky Blues »’ first defeat in the Premier League this season.
Emery: "Jackson deserves all the praise"!
Emery said of his striker’s performance: « What a fantastic player! Jackson was absolutely incredible today. Scoring two goals against Manchester City shows the quality he possesses. His movement, speed and ability to finish chances were exceptional, and he put the opposition defenders under considerable pressure. »
He added: « I am extremely satisfied with his performance. He worked very hard, fought for every ball and displayed exceptional confidence. That is exactly what we want to see from a striker playing at the highest level. »
The Aston Villa manager continued: « Sometimes, people underestimate his potential, but performances like this remind everyone of just how dangerous he can be. If he continues to play with this confidence, he can become an even better striker. He deserves all the praise today. »
Jackson has taken his tally to 7 goals in all competitions this season, having scored 4 goals in the English league and 3 in the Champions League in 11 matches.
The « Lions of Teranga » striker has also scored 6 goals in his last 6 matches, making him Aston Villa’s top scorer this season.
