Lionel Messi once again made an impression with Inter Miami. In the 2-0 victory over Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup final, the Argentine was involved in both of his team’s goals. A performance that prompted the club’s co-owner, David Beckham, to publicly support his candidacy for the next Ballon d’Or.

Beckham sees Messi among the candidates

After the match, David Beckham said that Messi’s candidacy for the Ballon d’Or was nothing out of the ordinary. The former England international notably highlighted the Argentine’s impact at the World Cup and his ability to remain decisive at the age of 39.

It is not by chance that he is being considered for the Ballon d’Or again,” Beckham explained, also believing that Messi was probably the best player at the last World Cup. The Inter Miami executive thus highlighted two factors: Messi’s performances in a major competition and his longevity at the highest level.

Messi continues to collect titles

This latest achievement also strengthens Messi’s record with Inter Miami. The Campeones Cup is his fourth trophy with the American club, following the Leagues Cup in 2023, the Supporters' Shield in 2024 and the MLS Cup won last season.

Against Cruz Azul, Messi scored the opening goal before helping create the second from a corner. The goal was also his 100th for Inter Miami in 115 official matches.
