Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has shed light on why Tshepang Moremi has been finding the back of the net so regularly of late.

According to the head coach, the key has been encouraging the winger to lean into his natural strengths instead of trying to reshape him into a completely different kind of player. That approach appears to be paying off, as Moremi's attacking output has grown increasingly valuable for the Buccaneers as the campaign wears on.

Tshepang Moremi has great Attacking advantages

The 26-year-old has lately shown he can give the Buccaneers another attacking option, especially through his speed and readiness to take on defenders.

As Bucs get ready to welcome Sekhukhune United to Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday for the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals, Ouaddou was questioned about the efforts made to sharpen Moremi's positioning and his input in attack.

Speaking with reporters at the competition's media events, the Pirates coach said his method is built around grasping what each player brings individually and shaping a game model that lets those strengths flourish.

"Look, you know, being a coach isn't just about planning training exercises, drills, team talks and the game model. You have to analyse the profile and qualities of your players so you can draw up or deliver a game model that suits them.

"And about this player, I know that in modern football plenty of people watch the big teams — Manchester City, Barcelona, all of them — and everyone wants inverted players.

"But sometimes, even if I want inverted players, a player's quality is sometimes to keep it simple and to be a winger. He's not a No.10, he's not a No.10, and I can't turn him into a No.10."

Ouaddou went on to say that he has reminded Moremi again and again of the one trait that makes him especially dangerous, urging him to use his pace more effectively.
