Things escalated quickly on Tuesday night. The controversy sparked by the Champions League playoff between Benfica and Real Madrid rapidly crossed national borders, prompting an official response from the Brazilian Football Federation.

In a clear-cut statement, the Brazilian Football Federation expressed "its solidarity with Vinicius Jr, who was the victim of yet another act of racism this Tuesday after scoring for Real Madrid in Lisbon." The CBF emphasized that "racism is a crime" and that it "is unacceptable, whether in football or anywhere else."

The federation even praised the Brazilian's courage for triggering the anti-racism protocol, declaring: "Vini, you are not alone. We are proud of you and will remain steadfast in the fight against all forms of discrimination. We stand by your side. Always."
