APR FC pulled off a major upset. On Friday at the Amahoro Stadium, the Rwandan club secured a 3-0 victory over the Eagles of Congo and qualified for the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Having lost 1-0 in the first leg in Lubumbashi, APR turned the tie around and secured their place in the next round in front of their home crowd.

It took a leader to spark the comeback. And it was Cheick Djibril Ouattara who rose to the occasion. APR’s Burkinabé international captain scored a brace and carried his team on his shoulders. Buoyed by their home crowd, the Rwandans quickly turned the pressure on and broke down the Congolese defence. The 3-0 final scoreline erased the first-leg defeat and propelled

APR into the next round in style.

On to the second preliminary round_ With this qualification, APR FC continue their CAF Champions League campaign. The Kigali-based club are aiming to go as far as possible this season and have shown that they will be a force to be reckoned with on home soil. The Eagles of Congo, meanwhile, are out of the competition at the first round. They will now have to refocus on the league.
