Having just arrived at Old Trafford, Baleba will therefore have to wait before making his Manchester United debut. The English club is expected to favor a gradual return to action in order to avoid a setback, with the midfielder coming off a period on the sidelines.

The latest estimates put his return around mid-September. That timeline could coincide with the international break and seriously complicate his availability for the Indomitable Lions.

Manchester United have just made a major investment in the Cameroonian. The club officially announced his transfer from Brighton on August 25 in a deal worth up to £70 million, including £65 million in guaranteed fees and £5 million in bonuses. Baleba has signed a contract until 2031, with an option for an additional year.

An absence that would hurt Cameroon

A potential absence would be a major blow for Cameroon. Carlos Baleba has established himself as one of the key players in the Cameroonian midfield thanks to his work rate, aggression in winning the ball back and ability to break lines.

Since making his international debut in 2024, the 22-year-old midfielder has earned 15 caps for the Indomitable Lions, without scoring a goal so far, according to available statistics.

His importance, however, goes beyond the numbers. In a Cameroonian midfield undergoing reconstruction, Baleba provides a distinctive physical and technical dimension. His absence would force the coaching staff to rethink their plans and find an alternative for the opening fixtures of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
