Nigeria made a perfect start to their CAN 2025 campaign, overcoming a spirited Tanzania side. Quickly settling into the opposition half, the Super Eagles dictated the tempo, though a lack of clinical finishing delayed the breakthrough until the 35th minute, when Semi Ajayi headed home from a well-delivered corner.

The match burst into life after halftime. Tanzania, more enterprising after the break, stunned the Nigerian defense when Charles M’Mombwa struck an equalizer in the 50th minute. But Nigeria hit back immediately—just two minutes later, Ademola Lookman curled in a superb finish to restore the lead.

Resolute until the final whistle, Nigeria claimed victory and now tops Group C, pending the result of Tunisia vs Uganda. Next up, the Super Eagles face Tunisia on matchday two, December 27 at 9pm.
