The second matchday of the league phase of the 2026-2027 Champions League produced an unprecedented number of goals, with 78 scored in the matches played on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This matchday thus broke the record set last season, when the total stood at 71 goals.

Champions League: nine teams on six points

In the standings, nine clubs have managed to collect six points from their first two matches: Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Aston Villa, Stuttgart, Liverpool, Sporting CP, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Real Betis.

The matchday notably saw Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester City (4-2), while Barcelona defeated Galatasaray 4-1. Liverpool won against LASK (6-3), and Arsenal dominated Lille 3-0.

Real Madrid, for their part, secured a spectacular victory away to Roma. Trailing 3-1, the Madrid club turned the game around to win 4-3, claim its second victory and take its tally to six points, while the Italian side has just one point after two matchdays.

The number of goals scored during the second matchday represents a new record since the league-phase format was introduced in the 2024-2025 season, surpassing the previous highest total recorded on the same matchday.
