Egypt director makes bold statement after Spain performance

Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan declared that the Pharaohs are currently superior to all Arab national teams following their recent performance against Spain on Saturday 31 March 2026.

Speaking to On Sport, Hassan revealed plans for future high profile friendlies as Egypt prepare for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Bold claim after Spain test

Ibrahim Hassan did not hold back when assessing Egypt’s standing in the region.

“Egypt are better than all Arab national teams.. Everyone wants to achieve a good result against us” he said.

His comments come after Egypt’s strong showing away to Spain, a match the technical staff had prepared for under significant pressure.

“Hossam Hassan studies every opponent in great detail. There was pressure before facing Saudi Arabia & Spain but the team responded well” he added.

From Argentina to Spain: how the plan changed

Hassan also revealed that Egypt had initially planned to face Argentina during the international break before logistical issues forced change.

“We were supposed to play Argentina but problems happened, so we proposed Spain instead” he explained.

He praised head coach Hossam Hassan’s mentality insisting the Egypt boss does not shy away from big challenges.

“Hossam Hassan is not afraid of anyone”

Reaction to hostile atmosphere in Spain

The Egypt director admitted the team was affected by the atmosphere during the Spain match particularly the reaction from the crowd.

“We felt upset because of the boos in Spain.. But once we stepped onto the pitch, we showed the strength of Egypt and achieved positive result on their ground” he said.

He also stressed the importance of respect for national symbols.

“There must be respect for Egypt’s flag & national anthem”

Brazil clash next on the horizon?

Looking ahead, Hassan hinted at another major test before the World Cup.

“There is a strong possibility we will face Brazil before the 2026 World Cup” he revealed.

He concluded by underlining the team’s commitment to delivering results and meeting expectations.

“Our focus was very high against Spain. We want to make Egyptian fans happy and we will not leave unless we are told ‘thank you’”
