Elias Mokwana might be on his way to Wydad!
Wydad is keenly interested in signing South African star Elias Mokwana, who became a free agent after leaving Espérance last week.
Press reports indicate that the player has received substantial offers from Saudi Arabia, alongside significant interest from Libya, while a return to South Africa also remains a possibility.
Wydad is interested in Elias Mokwana
Mokwana first caught the eye in the National First Division while turning out for Platinum City Rovers — a spell that ultimately opened the door to Sekhukhune United in 2022. It did not take long for his speed and ability to play across different roles to turn him into a key figure for Sekhukhune, and those same performances paved the way for his emergence in the Bafana Bafana squad.
The upward trajectory carried on into 2024, when he completed a switch to Espérance, a club with a rich history among Africa's most decorated sides. A loan stint with Al-Hazem in the Saudi Pro League followed, and he eventually became a free agent after parting ways with the Tunisian outfit at the end of their contractual arrangement.
Good knowledge of South African stars
It is nothing new for Wydad to sign stars from South Africa, given the number of players who have passed through the team in recent years. Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula are among the notable names who have worn the red jersey.
