Barça’s emphatic 7-2 victory over Racing Santander gave Gavi the chance to get back on the pitch. After another difficult period on the physical front, the player was able to take part in the match and express his satisfaction following several months marked by uncertainty.

“It has been very difficult for me”

Gavi acknowledged that his recent journey had not been easy. Serious injuries, particularly to his knee, significantly disrupted his progress after he had quickly established himself as one of the important young talents at FC Barcelona. “The last few years have been difficult for me because I have had serious injuries,” he explained, before stressing how difficult it is to return to his best level after a knee injury.

Despite these obstacles, the midfielder believes he has managed to return to a high level. He also recalled that he had already played important matches under Hansi Flick.

A new chapter with Barcelona

Promoted to the first team in 2021 after coming through La Masia, Gavi now has 169 appearances for Barça, with 10 goals and 18 assists. At 22, he also already has considerable international experience, with 32 caps and five goals for Spain. He was notably part of the Spanish team that were crowned world champions this summer.

The context is also favorable for Barça. Leaders of La Liga after six matchdays, the Catalan club have won all their matches and scored 28 goals. Gavi will now have to gradually reclaim a regular place in this high-performing team.
