Racing Santander were heavily beaten by FC Barcelona on Wednesday evening (7-2), but the Cantabrian club still managed to find the net twice. Maguette Gueye pulled one back in the 30th minute, before Yassir Zabiri scored after the break. The two goals were not enough to slow Barça down, as they dominated the match.

Despite the defeat, the two Africans at Racing managed to make their mark. Gueye scored his team’s first goal after the half-hour mark, while Zabiri found the net again in the second half. It was a mixed evening for Racing, but a particularly noteworthy one individually for the two players.

Zabiri keeps scoring

Yassir Zabiri cannot stop finding the net. After his hat-trick against Elche and then his brace against Alavés, the Racing Santander striker scored again in Barcelona. His goal brought the visitors back to 4-2, before FC Barcelona regained control for good.

With this latest goal, Zabiri has taken his tally to six goals in La Liga after six matchdays. He had already scored five times since the start of the season, including three goals against Elche and two against Alavés. His trip to Camp Nou therefore did not interrupt his attacking momentum.

Gueye opens his account

Maguette Gueye also took advantage of the evening to score his first goal of the season. The Senegalese midfielder pulled one back in the 30th minute, shortly after Barça had taken control of the match.

The goal rewarded the player’s start to the season, as he had not yet found the net for Racing. Gueye joined the Cantabrian club in August 2024 from FK Partizani Tirana in Albania. He signed a five-year contract.

After two seasons in the colours of Racing Santander, the Senegalese player has therefore opened his La Liga account at FC Barcelona. His goal did not change the outcome of the match, but it allowed the midfielder to leave his mark on an especially difficult evening for his team.
