"I don't want to continue anymore": Neymar announces his international retirement

Santos striker Neymar da Silva (34) has announced his international retirement just days after Brazil was eliminated in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup.

The Seleção's journey came to an abrupt end in the Round of 16 following a defeat against Norway (2-1).

In statements relayed by the Spanish daily Sport, Neymar confirmed that he would no longer wear the Brazilian national team jersey.

"Thank you, everyone. I appreciate Lucas Moura's words, but no, I will not continue with the national team.

I believe I've made history with this team. I've been very happy here, I've lived many experiences, I've always given my best and fought for this jersey. But I think I don't want to continue anymore."

With this decision, the Brazilian star is withdrawing from both the 2028 Copa América and the 2030 World Cup, thus putting a definitive end to his international career.

During his time with the five-time world champions, Neymar took part in four World Cups (2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026). He leaves the international stage as the top scorer in Seleção history, with 80 goals and 58 assists in 130 appearances.
