Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Dillon Sheppard has rung alarm bells over two major areas of improvement amid a three-game winless run in the Betway Premiership.

The Glamour Boys played to a one-all draw with Stellenbosch FC in their last league outing, remaining stagnant in fourth place with 14 points accumulated from their opening eight fixtures.

Notably, Chiefs have registered a solitary win in their last five matches in the league, beating Siwelele FC before stalemates with Polokwane City, Golden Arrows, and Stellies, respectively.

Sheppard has shrugged off claims that Amakhosi are, more often than not, content with a point, bemoaning the lack of clean sheets as a major factor behind the draws.

“I don't think it's a case of settling for one point, if you go game by game, each game has got it's different merits and objectives. We obviously want to win a football game,” said the Chiefs second in command.

"I think we're doing enough to win a football game, but if you look at the type of goals that we are conceding, we've got to be better, especially in the defensive moments.

"The stats are showing us that we're second or third in conceding chances per game. We are not conceding a lot of chances but the problem is that teams are scoring, so it's something we really have to improve on.

The CAF A and UEFA A License holder also believes the lack of cutting edge in the final third has been detrimental to the team's objective of keeping pace with the upper echelon.

“Also, with our young attacking force, young Duba gets a chance today [Tuesday], he could have been the top goal scorer already,” added Sheppard, who previously spearheaded the Chiefs reserve team.

"These are things that we keep working on because the only thing you can work on is on the training pitch and try to improve. The most important thing is that we're not losing games.

"We are picking up points but it's not good enough for us. We want to be competing, we want to be up there, and we need to pick up points.

Chiefs will swing back to action with the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round clash against Red Arrows of Zambia at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.
