Mercato: Saudi Arabia makes another move for Lionel Messi

After failing to secure his signature in 2023, Saudi Arabia is once again in the race for the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, Lionel Messi. The Argentine superstar could be set to join his eternal rival: Cristiano Ronaldo.

For several days now, Lionel Messi has been shining as always in the colors of Inter Miami. With the American club, the Argentine managed to qualify for the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain. This season, Messi has racked up 50 goals and 24 assists in 60 matches. This is yet another testament that the 2022 World Cup champion still has plenty of fuel in the tank, despite being 38 years old. As a result, Saudi Arabia has reignited its pursuit to land Lionel Messi.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, a well-informed transfer market expert, Al Hilal club president Fahd bin Nafel is currently in the United States. He's not just there as a tourist. He is reportedly planning an imminent meeting with Jorge Messi, Lionel's father and agent. Beyond the jaw-dropping salary on offer, the Argentine star is said to appreciate the quality of life, tranquility, homes, and schools that would be available to him.

As a reminder, Messi's contract with Inter Miami runs until December 2025. According to several sources close to the situation, a move as early as this summer cannot be ruled out. And if it happens, Messi will be reunited with his eternal rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.
