The Atlas Lionesses kicked off their journey in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in the best possible way. Facing Kenya this Sunday at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Complex in Rabat, the Moroccan women asserted their dominance with a resounding 4-0 victory.

Attacking festival

They had already built a comfortable 3-0 lead by halftime thanks to goals from Sakina Ouzraoui in the 19th minute, Maryam Atiq in the 28th, and Ibtissam Jraidi in the 31st. The Moroccans kept up the pressure after the break, with Ibtissam Jraidi bagging her second and the team’s fourth in the 49th minute. Against a Kenyan side making their continental return after a decade-long absence, Jorge Vilda’s squad gave their opponents no chance.

Morocco tops Group A

With this emphatic win, the Atlas Lionesses take sole possession of top spot in Group A with three points and a +4 goal difference, ahead of Algeria, who earlier beat Senegal 2-0. After reaching the final in the last two editions, Morocco’s message is loud and clear: this year, the goal is to lift the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy on home soil.
