In recent days, Éric Chelle has been linked with the managerial position at OM. The coach has recently come under heavy criticism from Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe.

Last Wednesday, OM officially appointed Habib Beye as head coach of the first team. Even before that, Éric Chelle’s name was being mentioned as a candidate. But Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, former president of the Gombe State Football Federation, told Afrik Foot he found the news hard to believe.

“I don’t think it’s acceptable (for him to extend with Nigeria). This man came to Nigeria only to embellish his CV. I’ve already said it: the Super Eagles are too important for Chelle. It’s the Super Eagles who put Chelle on the international stage, not the other way around, and now he wants to blackmail us. I’ve read his demands, they’re ridiculous. During AFCON in Morocco, Chelle invented a ghost story that Algeria wanted his services, then the Olympique de Marseille story followed. If he wants to leave, let him go. (…) We trained him as a coach. We made him indispensable and now he wants to blackmail us. If we keep this man for that amount, Nigeria will regret it.”, he explained.
