Transfer window: Fulham sign Gonzalo García
Fulham have secured their new attacking reinforcement. The London club have officially announced the arrival of Gonzalo García from Real Madrid. The 22-year-old Spanish forward has signed a five-year deal, running until June 2031, with an option for the Cottagers to extend his contract for a further year. The transfer fee has not been disclosed.
This move marks a new chapter in the career of a player regarded as one of the most promising attacking talents to emerge from Madrid’s youth academy.
Real Madrid pays tribute to eleven years of loyalty
Real Madrid confirmed the agreement with Fulham in an official statement, applauding the career path of their young striker.
"Real Madrid C. F. and Fulham FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of our player Gonzalo García. Gonzalo joined Real Madrid in 2014, at the age of 10, and has been part of our club for 11 seasons. With the first team, he won a Club World Cup and a La Liga title."
The Spanish club also made sure to highlight his commitment to Madrid’s values:
"Gonzalo has always embodied the values of Real Madrid. The club thanks him for his dedication and commitment throughout these years. Real Madrid, which will always be his home, wishes him and his family great success in this new chapter."
A breakout 2025-2026 season accelerated his rise
Gonzalo García leaves Madrid after an especially impressive campaign. Under the guidance of Álvaro Arbeloa, he gradually established himself in the first-team rotation.
Last season, the striker featured in 39 matches across all competitions, tallying 8 goals and 3 assists. His effectiveness was also on display during the 2026 Club World Cup, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 4 goals and an assist.
Despite Real Madrid’s elimination in the semi-finals, his performances left a lasting impression. His coach at the time, Xabi Alonso, even drew comparisons to club legend Raúl, one of Los Blancos’ all-time great attackers.
A journey defined by eye-catching statistics
Even before breaking through at the highest level, Gonzalo García was already turning heads with his numbers in Real Madrid’s youth ranks.
During the 2023-2024 season, he netted 35 goals for the Under-19s, playing a key role in a historic treble for the Madrid side. Promoted to Castilla, he confirmed his potential with 25 goals and 4 assists in 36 appearances—a total of 29 goal contributions.
His versatility is also a major asset. Able to play as a centre-forward or out wide, he stands out with his movement, goalscoring instinct, and ability to finish in a variety of ways. Against Real Betis, he notably scored a spectacular hat-trick featuring a header, a chest control and finish, a volley, and a backheel.
A new challenge in the Premier League
Having risen through the ranks at Madrid since arriving at the age of 10, Gonzalo García is now set to discover the Premier League with Fulham.
"I am very grateful and very happy to be here. I want to thank the board and Álvaro Arbeloa for the trust they’ve shown in me. I’m hugely excited to begin this new adventure," the player said after signing.
With this signing, Fulham are betting on a young forward who, despite his age, already has significant experience and the ability to continue his development after coming through one of the world’s top academies.
