Nobel Mendy undergoing medical in Barcelona ahead of Rangers FC transfer
Nobel Mendy / Real Betis

Nobel Mendy has left the Real Betis squad to finalise his transfer to Glasgow Rangers. The two clubs have reached an agreement for a fee of 3 million euros. The Senegalese defender will undergo his medical examination in Barcelona this Wednesday, August 13, 2025, before heading to Scotland.

Mendy, whose contract with Betis runs until 2027, is no longer part of Manuel Pellegrini’s plans. Sidelined during pre-season, he hasn’t participated in the latest team training sessions. The Andalusian club has reached an agreement with Rangers for a €3 million fee, including a 20% sell-on clause should he be resold for a profit.

The Senegalese player opted for the Scottish offer despite interest from several European clubs, including Rayo Vallecano, Club Brugge, and FC Basel. PSV Eindhoven had tried to sign him earlier in the transfer window, but administrative hurdles blocked the move. Rangers, in need of defensive reinforcements after Nasser Djiga’s difficult start, accelerated negotiations to secure Mendy’s arrival.

The Scottish club is now awaiting the official paperwork to finalise the deal. The player is expected to sign a four-year contract, with his arrival in Glasgow scheduled for the day after his medical. This signing marks Rangers’ tenth addition of the summer as the club continues its rebuild under Russell Martin’s leadership.
