Official: Thibaut Courtois makes his return to Genk

Thibaut Courtois remains deeply connected to his roots. The Real Madrid goalkeeper has officially announced his entry into the capital of Genk, his boyhood club, through his company NXTPLAY.

Courtois first made a name for himself wearing the Belgian club’s shirt during the 2010-2011 season, before moving on to Chelsea and later building his career at Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid, where he has played since 2018. By becoming a minority shareholder in Genk, the Belgian shot-stopper aims to help drive the club’s development. He notably praised the outstanding work done by the Belgian academy over recent years, both on the sporting front and in terms of financial management.

For Courtois, this investment also carries deep personal significance. The 34-year-old player considers Genk to be the club that enabled him to take his first steps toward a brilliant career. Already involved in several football-related ventures, the former Chelsea goalkeeper continues to invest in the world of sport while strengthening his bond with his boyhood club.
