OGC Nice issues warning to Terem Moffi

After a six-month loan spell at Porto, Terem Moffi is back at OGC Nice.

The Nigerian striker was present this Wednesday as the squad returned to training. However, club president Maurice Cohen made it clear that Moffi's days with the club are numbered.

"We’re following football regulations. He’s come back, we owe him training, so he’ll be training with the team as usual. But he’s on the list of players we want to see leave. He’ll most likely be transferred elsewhere at some point. He’s on the departures list. There’s no separate group — Roger (Ricort, sporting director) didn’t want a separate group for these players, so he’ll train as normal. What’s certain is that we’ll do everything we can to transfer him," Cohen stated.

"We may not respect the man, but we have to respect the player. What Moffi did… he did what he wanted. He also knows he won’t be able to play for OGC Nice. I think it would even be disrespectful to our fans if he wore the OGC Nice shirt again. But as long as he’s here, we’ll try to act properly with him and his agents, so he can prepare normally and stay in good physical condition if he leaves us. We’ll shake hands, wish each other good luck, and it’ll be a failure," added Roger Ricort during this pre-season press briefing.

To recap, the conflict between the player and the club dates back to last autumn. After a defeat at Lorient, several supporters waited for the team’s return to the training ground late at night to vent their frustration. Several fans physically confronted Moffi and Jérémie Boga, as well as then-sporting director Florian Maurice. Both players filed complaints after being assaulted and insulted, and sought to terminate their contracts, arguing that the club had failed to guarantee their safety.
