Premier League: Yves Bissouma reaches the historic milestone of 200 appearances
Yves Bissouma reached a symbolic milestone this week in the Premier League during the thrilling 2-2 draw between Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton. The midfielder made his 200th appearance in the English top flight, becoming the second most-capped Malian player in Premier League history, trailing only Abdoulaye Doucouré.
A special 200th game!
Was it just coincidence? The symbolism was impossible to ignore: this landmark appearance came against his former club, Brighton. Since joining the Seagulls in 2018 from Lille, the Malian eagle unleashed his talent on England's south coast, quickly catching the eye in the Premier League. Four brilliant seasons, 124 matches, and then a move to Tottenham in 2022.
Following in Doucouré's footsteps
Bissouma started on April 18 against Brighton (2-2), delivering a powerful performance in the heart of midfield before coming off in the 57th minute.
With 200 Premier League appearances, he is outdone among Malian players only by Abdoulaye Doucouré, who boasts 258 matches between Watford (2017-2020) and Everton (2020-2025).
Experience to rescue Tottenham
At 29, the captain of Mali's Eagles still has time to break the record. Despite lengthy injuries this season, Bissouma has featured in only nine Premier League matches. Now back to full fitness, his experience and vision in midfield could prove decisive in Spurs' ultimate mission: securing top-flight survival.
